The Allen rack boasts a patented tie-down system and individually cradles up to five bikes in the 28-inch carry arms. A separate tie down strap is included with the rack and eliminates lower bike movement completely. As easy to install as it is to use, the rack sets up in less than 5 minutes with a no-wobble bolt that holds it still within the hitch. When the rack is not in use, the carry arms quickly drop out of the way and fold down flat with a patented single pin mechanism and the rack tilts up to allow easy access to the lift gate.

About Allen Bike Racks:
In 1967, after a few years of working on the aerospace technology for the Apollo missions, Dick Allen was out of a job. Government cutbacks led Allen, a Harvard-trained physicist, to transform his garage hobby into a new industry. A cycling enthusiast, inventor, and family man, Allen had a personal need for a bike-carrying device. On weekends, he would take his sons and wife to Cape Cod or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. What proved difficult time and again was the transport of his family's bicycles. Rather than fight through inconvenience with twine and a dinged car, Allen sought an answer for himself as well as a market in which he foresaw major growth possibilities.
Always a pathfinder, Allen took to work in his Lincoln, Massachusetts garage in search of a more efficient way to transport bikes. Drafting designs during the day and constructing them throughout the night, he put together a model made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding). At first, the Allens tested the prototype on weekend excursions. Finding the first trunk-mounted rack to be a success, Dick started Allen Bike Racks. Dealer acceptance came quickly, and by 1971 Allen Bike Racks were sold nationally through a number of major bicycle distributors. Today, the company owns over three-dozen patents and offers a versatile product line of bike racks while Dick's son Alex now owns and operates the business. What started out as a small garage run operation now operates three warehouses nationally, two factories abroad, and has products sold in more than a dozen countries around the world.

Thule 914XT Roadway 4 Bike Hitch Carrier Review
The Thule 915XT Roadway 5-Bike Hitch Carrier has the largest transporting capacity in Thule's popular Roadway product line. A great all-around hitch carrier, it is designed to support and transport up to five bicycles, weighing up to a maximum total weight of 150 lbs, conveniently at the rear of your vehicle using your 2 inch hitch receiver. Features include: carrier arms with the capability to fold down when not in use as well as away from the vehicle to allow access to vehicle back openings, heavy-duty construction and carrier arm cradles with detachable anti-sway components built in for each bike mounted.
Designed for maximum load carrying, the Roadway 5-Bike Hitch Carrier accommodates up to five bikes utilizing 2 inch hitch receivers at the tail end of your vehicle (1¼ receiver connections not supported). It is also incredibly strong, stable and full featured, with durable high-strength steel construction and varied standard components, including: Stay-Put cradles with detachable anti-sway cages that prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact which dramatically reduces the chance of scratches to vehicles and bikes.
In addition, by way of its easy-to-use Hitch Switch lever, the Roadway 5-Bike Hitch Carrier has the ability to fold its carrier arms down at the push of a button when not in use and even tilt the carrier's upright structure away from vehicle, allowing for hatch or tailgate access (bikes must be removed first). This means that you can get to every corner of your vehicle when you want to, without having to remove the carrier. This ability to fold carrier arms also makes it unnecessary to remove an unloaded carrier in order to effectively perform everyday driving tasks like parking. Also impressive is the Roadway's virtually tool-free assembly. This makes installation a breeze and removal just as fast when the need to do so eventually comes.

Thule was founded in 1942 by the Thulin family, when Eric Thulin, a true lover of the outdoors, put the Thule name on a pike trap he designed and began to sell in Scandinavia. It wasn't long before he added other practical items to the company's portfolio. By the 1960s, the company began to concentrate on car-related products, including its first roof rack. The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions ever since. The Thule Group is a world leader in providing transport solutions for an active life.

Deluxe 4 Bike carrier for 2" Hitch Vehicals with spare tire
Thule 9003 Raceway Platform 2 Bike Carrier Review
The Thule 9003 raceway platform 2-bike carrier is a rear mounted platform bike rack that takes the ease of transporting bikes to new heights by blending the stability of features commonly found in a platform hitch rack, with the ease of use options found in a trunk mount carrier. Features include: a bike tray mount design that allows for fast, easy bike loading, Sure-Tight ratcheting cables with locks that provide maximum fastening security to your vehicle trunk or rear hatch, adjustable bike frame clamps to keep bikes separated and secure, the ability to fold the rack flat when not in use and locks for piece of mind when leaving bikes and your rack on your vehicle.
The Thule 9003 raceway platform 2-Bike Trunk carrier represents a revolutionary new rack concept that merges the ultra-easy bicycle loading convenience of a trunk mount rack with the transport stability of platform-style hitch mount rack. The raceway 9003 includes Thule's patented FitDial technology, which allows for fast, easy use with a wide range of vehicles. To fit the carrier to varying trunk configurations simply lift the unit's release lever and open the frame position to the desired opening, locking it into place with a push of the release lever. Molded rubber pads at the ends of arms provide firm hold to vehicle and protect against scratches. Each possible position of the frame opening is marked by a number. Noting this makes future fittings of the carrier even faster. Next the 9003 raceway secures to the trunk of vehicles via Sure-Tight high strength cable attachments that provide a hold that is much better than anything possible with the straps commonly used in trunk mount carriers. Four cables extend from the core of the rack, two at the top and two at the bottom. Cable tension is released at the flip of upper and lower levers. Cables can be pulled out to the exact length needed for your vehicle configuration and once hooks at the end of cables are in place, they are then tightened using the side-by-side large and smaller dials at the side of the carrier. Although rigid, cables are padded, meaning they will not scratch vehicles.
Once the rack is securely mounted on a vehicle, the loading of bikes is easy. The Raceway 9003 holds up to two bicycles, securing each via the combination of an integrated bike tray from below, and an adjustable frame clamp from above. The bike trays are compatible with all kinds of bikes with tires up to 3" in width and ensure effortless bike loading and unloading by way of their lower level, compared to many other trunk mount bike carriers. Once bikes are placed in the rack's wheel trays, they are secured to with a wheel strap at each wheel. Stability is further ensured for each bike with an adjustable frame clamp, located on the upper bike rack arms. These clamps are lowered down to make secure contact with bike frames and then are locked in place. Final security comes as arms close firmly around bike frames using an ergonomic knob that can be locked. When bikes are removed, the Raceway 9003 can also fold up and out of the way, with clamp arms folding down until inline with the main body of the rack and the bike trays folded up.
The Thule 9003 raceway platform 2-bike carrier features locking security on two levels. First, it is packaged with a Thule lock integrated into each bike clamp to secure bikes to the carrier and protect them from theft when bikes are loaded and users are away from their vehicle. The carrier itself is also protected by the inclusion of locks and keys for securing the Sure-Tight ratcheting cables in place, which locks the entire bike carrier to your trunk or hatchback.
